Where to find it in Prism:Search RankingsGoogle SERP

What is it?

The Google SERP screen tracks where your keywords rank on Google. SERP means search engine results page. The screen has four tabs: Overview, Keywords, SERP Features and SERP Unified. This guide covers the filter bar, Overview and Keywords. The other two tabs are in SERP features.

Why use it?

  • To see how many keywords improved, dropped or were lost.
  • To watch your average position over time.
  • To check your share of voice by ranking group.
  • To see the real Google page for a keyword on a given date.

Before you start

You need a Google SERP project linked to your master project, with keywords added. See Project settings and Keywords and prompt files.

How to use it

  1. Open Google SERP

In the sidebar, under Search Rankings, click Google SERP. A small menu opens with Overview, Keywords, SERP Features and SERP Unified. Click the one you want.

  2. Set the filter bar

Pick your project. Narrow by Select Brand, Category and Sub Category if needed.

  3. Pick dates

Choose a Start Date and an End Date. Only dates with data can be picked.

  4. Read the Overview

Check the KPI cards, then the Ranking Trend chart.

  5. Go to Keywords

Open the Keywords tab to see each keyword. Click a position number to see the saved Google page.

The Google SERP Overview tab.

The tab you open is remembered. If you refresh the page or use your browser's back button, you stay on the same tab.

Understanding the screen

The filter bar

  • Project dropdown.
  • Select Brand, Category, Sub Category. Each one opens a list with Select all (or Clear all) and an Apply button. When you change the brand, the category and sub-category choices reset. When you change the category, the sub-category resets.
  • Start Date → End Date. Only dates with data can be picked.
  • Reset, with a badge that counts your active filters and dates.

The filter bar is shared by all four tabs. A change on one tab applies to the others too.

Overview KPI cards

The chip Comparing (previous date) → (end date) shows which two dates the cards compare.

The Features Coverage and AI Overview hover text also shows Owned Features and Total Features. The AI Overview card label is cut short on screen as AI Overview Cover….

Ranking Trend

Stacked bars show how many keywords sit in each group: Top 1, Top 2-3, Top 4-5, Top 6-10 and > 10. Two lines show Avg Pos (average position) and Visibility. The subtitle reads "Last N days of available data" with the end date. "Days" here means days on which Prism checked your rankings.

SERP Feature Coverage and Features Distribution

SERP Feature Coverage lists the features found for your keywords, with owned / total keywords and a coverage percentage. Click a feature to open it on the SERP Features tab. Features Distribution is a donut of the same features.

Group Wise Ranking

A table of rank groups by date. For each date it shows KW (keyword count), SV (search volume) and SOV% (share of voice). Click the download icon (hover: Export Excel) to save it as an Excel file.

Keywords tab

  • Search with Search keywords….
  • Buckets, each with a count: All Keywords, Top 3, Trending Up, Trending Down.
  • Columns: Keyword, Position, Trend, SERP Features, Volume (click to sort), Difficulty.
  • Next to the position you may see "was #N". That is the position at the previous check.
  • Click the arrow at the start of a row to expand the SERP Preview, with Ranking URL: and SERP Features:.
  • Export downloads the keyword list. Opportunity downloads the opportunity file. Both use your current filters, search and bucket.
  • At the bottom, pick 10, 25, 50 or 100 rows / page, move with the arrows, or type a page number in Go to.

SERP snapshot

Click a position number (hover: View live SERP snapshot). Prism opens a new browser tab with the Google results page it saved for that keyword on your end date. If you did not pick an end date, it shows the latest check.

The top bar of the snapshot tab shows "Google results for" the keyword, the date and the number of pages. If Prism checked more than one results page, use the page buttons (‹, 1, 2 … ›) to move between them.

Understanding the data

Average position

Your average place in Google results. Position 1 is the top result, so lower is better. Prism weights the average by impressions, so queries that are seen more count more.

Example: A page at position 3 for a query with 1,000 impressions counts ten times more than position 20 for a query with 100.

Appears in: Analytics, Advanced Analytics

Features coverage

The percentage of SERP features that your domain owns, out of the features that appear for your keywords.

Appears in: Google SERP → Overview

AI Overview coverage

The percentage of your keywords whose Google results show an AI-generated summary (AI Overview).

Appears in: Google SERP → Overview

Share of voice (SOV)

Your share of the keywords and search volume in a ranking group or SERP feature, compared with the whole market.

Appears in: Google SERP

Features Coverage = owned features ÷ feature opportunities.

How often new data appears depends on the project's frequency. See Tracking frequency.

Example

For example, you pick 1 to 30 September. The chip shows Comparing 29 Sep → 30 Sep. All Keywords is 200, Improved 35, Dropped 20 and Lost 4. In Ranking Trend, the Top 6-10 bar grows while > 10 shrinks. You open Keywords, click Trending Down, and click a keyword's position to see the Google page for 30 September.

Tips

  • Use Trending Down each week to catch drops early.
  • Compare SV and SOV% in Group Wise Ranking. A few high-volume keywords in Top 1 can matter more than many low-volume ones.
  • See Ranking and AI exports for download details.

Frequently asked questions

Which dates does the Overview compare?

The Overview shows a chip such as Comparing (previous date) to (end date). It compares the end date of your range with the check before it.

Why can't I pick some dates?

Only dates with ranking data can be picked. Your project is checked on its own schedule, which may be daily, weekly, monthly or just once.

Can I open a Google SERP tab straight from the sidebar?

Yes. Google SERP in the sidebar opens a small menu with Overview, Keywords, SERP Features and SERP Unified. Click one to go straight to that tab.

Why does the SERP snapshot not open?

Prism may not have a saved results page for that keyword and date. You see No crawl task found for this keyword/date or No SERP snapshot available for this keyword/date. Also check that your browser allows pop-ups for Prism.
